Core deposits & returns.

Many of our parts carry a refundable core deposit, paid at the time of purchase. Send your old part (the “core”) back with the prepaid shipping label and we refund that deposit in accordance with our core refund policy.

Mercury, OMC, or another brand? Send us a photo below and we'll confirm your core.

How do I send back my core for a refund?

  • OBR pays freight on a core shipped from anywhere in the contiguous United States.
  • A prepaid return freight voucher is included with every product that requires a core deposit.
  • Package your core carefully and put the return label on the box. You're responsible for proper packaging — cores damaged in shipping due to poor packaging may not receive a full refund.
  • For truck-line shipments, call the toll-free number on the return Bill of Lading for pick-up.
  • Include a copy of your invoice inside the box with your core return.
  • The core refund is mailed to the address on the invoice.

How much is my core worth?

  • Every core received is thoroughly evaluated to assess its value.
  • Cores must be OEM parts.
  • The condition of the parts determines the value of the core.
  • If one or more key components are unusable, the refund is adjusted to reflect the change in value.

How the value breaks down

Powerhead assembly

Two key components: the block, and the internals (crankshaft, rods, etc.). If both are re-usable, the full core amount applies.

  • Block — 60% of core value
  • Internals — 40% of core value
  • A ventilated block has no core value; one that needs re-sleeving has reduced value.

Lower gearcase assembly

Three key components: the housing, the vertical driveshaft, and the horizontal prop-shaft. If all are reusable, the full core amount applies.

  • Housing — 60% of core value
  • Driveshaft — 20% of core value
  • Prop-shaft — 20% of core value

A core with no value may be returned for a shipping charge based on weight, and only the defective parts may be returned once a core has been received for evaluation.
